You are bidding on the full price of an Unpatented Placer Mining Gold Claim on the Northern Burnt River in the Historic Burnt River District in Oregon State. The Placer Claim is in Baker County Oregon, in the east part of the state. Turning south off highway 7 onto Whitney Road at Historic Whitney Ghost Town, going for about 5.1 miles. It is located right off of this easy access gravel road. The location of the claim is 17.5 miles from the Historical mining town of Sumpter.
We bought this claim in 2016 and early 2017 we visited the claim and did some prospecting. We spent several weeks making improvements including Campsite, ATV access, and tent workstation area for equipment. Unfortunately, we were not able to work this claim because of my medical issues. However, we have camped on the claim, over the last several years.
This location is a part of the legendary gold mining region over the last 100 plus years and is one of the most beautiful creek settings for camping and prospection. (See Photo #1)
This claim is one of the most picturesque claim sites on the creek. One side of the river is a meadow with natural springs where native americans have camped in the old times.
Because it has never been considered an essential salmon and /or steelhead river habitat, this section has always been open to dredging. However, last year it was closed to dredging due to low water levels. The Eastern Oregon Miners Association (EOMA) is currently seeking clarification by BLM for opening this section of the creek this year. The good news is...you as the owner will be able to highbank, because this site has a secondary side stream to use as a settling creek, that requires no permit. (see Photo #6 and #10)

* Any further help to complete the transaction.
An "Unpatented Mining Claim means you own the "Mineral Rights" to the land and NOT the land itself. The land itself, is still owned by the government agency ( BLM, Forest Service etc.).You cannot build a personal residence on the land, but you can camp on your claim for two weeks if not prospecting. Also, you can recreate on this land. The mining claim is considered "real property" and as such, can be sold, leased, and transferred to family members. As long as your fees are paid on time, your claim cannot be taken from you.
The BLM yearly maintenance fee of $165, are paid through September 1st, 2022. You must either pay a new maintenance fee, file a Maintenance fee waiver certification, or transfer the claim by September 1, 2022, for 2023, or loose the claim because BLM will consider it forfeited and abandoned. If you file a maintenance fee waiver certificate, you must perform a minimum of $100. of improvements (EXAMPLE: road improvement, clearing overgrown vegetation, trash removal, etc.). More information for current fee amounts and maintenance fee waiver on the BLM website.( mining claim fee requirements or mining claim fees.)
You are allowed to prospect the surface material of your claim including panning, sluicing, dry washing, metal detecting, and rock hounding for all precious metals and minerals (not just gold).
As with all unpatented mining claims on BLM land, you must file a "Plan of Operation" for any extensive mining operations beyond casual prospecting with the U.S. Forest Service.
