This 5" all bisque Kestner doll has yellow stockings and is seldom seen.
Her mold number is 310 over 5. Her arms and legs are all marked 5.
I think these dolls were the top of their line and were made in a much
smaller number because you seldom see them by their most experienced artists.
Her cotton clothes are factory originals. Her mohair wig is original also.
She was made by Kestner in Germany to compete with the French
fashion pocket dolls. She has the slim body where the 150 dolls have
a chubby tummy. Her leg loops are perfect. The top of her
right leg has a shallow chip and the top of her left leg has two tiny nicks
as you can hardly see them but I can feel two rough places.
They stopped making all mignonette dolls in 1899 because they were
too expensive to make. I believe they cost 1 dollar each. That would
make her about 130 years old. She probably was made in 1890.
She has a slight eye wax missing on her left eye. You can see they
are in their original set. There is a very small chip on her right
leg on the top. See pictures. The left leg has two rough
places on the top that is hard to see but you can feel them. Her legs are
marked 307 over 5 which was common in the factory when they assembled them.
I fell in love with their faces years ago because they looked so smart.
I could not believe anyone could make a doll so small and look so smart.
I have had her for over 12 years. This doll probably was never played with
due to no paint loss on her two strap black Napoleon heeled shoes.
I took a close up of her face so you can see the master artist painter art work. Probably the most experienced artists painted them. The lashes are so tiny I always wonder what they used to make them that tiny. The Iranians used a elephant eyelash on their mother of pearl pendants. They were done by children. Speaking of children, they children set the sleep eyes because their fingers were small enough to fit inside the heads. So many interesting
things we learn about those long ago lives of our forefathers. Mine came from the black forest and was probably where some of these were made as a cottage industry in the cold winter months high in the mountains.
These were made by Kestner from 3.5" to 9". They are rare
and have sweet faces. They have slim bodies and shapely legs.
307 has stiff necks and 310 have swivel necks.
Thank you for looking.
