Dated 1950 and signed S. Barron (b.1917-d.2006) Canadian artist/illustrator and Editorial cartoonist - Abstract painting on canvas that I am assuming is painted in acrylic since in the artist bio it mentions that he was allergic to oil paints. Mostly known for his editorial cartoons - he was employed with the Victoria Times 1958-1961 and the Toronto Star 1961 to when he retired 30 years later. Definitely an early work in his career and not the style he was known for since in his later years he painted mostly landscapes/seascapes in watercolors in the Plein Aire style and he and his wife ran an art gallery selling their works.
The painting seems to be an abstraction of a vessel similar to a bottle or vase. I would mostly categorize the painting as Abstract with a dash of Cubism. Bold colors and interesting subject, not a masterpiece but definitely better than most. Perfect example of the Mid-Century period art and is reasonably priced being from a listed artist. There are a few of his abstracts on-line, but I don't think he really took to the style especially after his professional work as a cartoonist took him in a new direction with his art.
Painting is 21" high by 31" long.
