Offering two printings of the first issue in the four-issue Marvel mini-series that was originally published November 1983-February 1984. This issue was the only one of the series featuring artwork by Paul Smith, who was all but unknown at the time, but stands out instantly with the fantastic cover! The mini-series was written by Jim Owsley, the first published African-American comic book writer at the time.
The first issue focuses on the Falcon’s alter-ego, Sam Wilson, and his role as a social worker in the ghetto dealing with low-income housing and gang violence. Owsley pulls off a relevant story that is as applicable today as it was in 1983. This particular story was written years before the other three and circulated around the Marvel Comics offices for quite some time. The first issue was originally slated for _Marvel Fanfare_, but Jim Shooter wanted to push the idea of a limited series, and decided that a Falcon mini-series would be a perfect fit. Since Paul Smith was already committed to _The X-Men _by this time, the other three issues were penciled by Mark Bright. The series would go on to reveal the Falcon as a mutant, which would be altered somewhat in later titles, such as _The Avengers_.
In addition to the 1983 original, I will also include the second printing of the first issue published in February 2006 that came with the Marvel Legends action figure series. The contents of the book are identical to the original, albeit printed on slightly better paper (see last two photos).
Both issues are in excellent condition, with cover gloss and color intact and negligible spine stress (see photos). Of course I'd be happy to combine shipping with any of my other items (you may message me for an updated invoice or I can refund any extra shipping paid).
