This MERRIMAN Bros. Sailboat Snatch Block has been used on a cruising sailboat, showing some typical marks of use- still remaining quite tight and looking good. It is extremely HEAVY DUTY, unlike many blocks made recently, with a HEAVY BRONZE SHEAVE- A great block for modern or vintage boats.
This was the last and most highly refined snatch block design by Merriman Bros., with the snap shackle section being FULLY GIMBALLED, unlike the earlier Merriman snatch blocks, and most subsequent blocks made by other makers. This allows it to take very heavy loads without high strain on the top of the snap shackle section. Block bears Merriman's distinctive "Trident" markings on all major parts.
MASSIVE CONSTRUCTION. Will accept line to 9/16" (possibly 5/8") in diameter. Block measures about 7" overall, and is quite heavy and heavily made. Design allows it to have shock cord threaded through the top boss, allowing it to 'stand' and guide lines precisely.
