YELLOW ASTER MINE
20.66 Acre Unpatented Lode Mining Claim on Federal Land in the Historic Tonopah Nevada Mining District / Nye County Nevada
An extremely rare opportunity to own a mine in one of the most historic of all Nevada’s mining districts (and at a time when there are almost no available claims left because they have all been staked). The Yellow Aster mine shows on the record books of having more than 300 feet of workings on 2 levels, but as you can see, the top has been jammed up with some debris.
We were able to take laser range readings through the miner’s trash and other debris and consistently got reads from 78’ to 96’ – from several different angles. That could mean either we were reading the start of a tunnel going off horizontally from the bottom at 78’, that the shaft begins to slope as it hits the 78’ foot level or that there is a landing or protrusion on one side of the shaft at 78’ and it is only 96’ deep.
No way to tell until you enter it. Although I would recommend reworking the tailings since this one has nice easy access close to the paved roads, I would strongly suggest taking the time to set up a steel tripod or head frame and pulling the trash out caught in the jam-up and seeing what you can see on the bottom. The timber collaring shows it age of probably 60 to 95 years old, but is still in good shape structurally. Who knows what kinds of hidden treasures buried from humans eyes for decades may be just waiting to be discovered…
Nearby geological attractions include Lunar Crater, the Sump and Monte Cristo's Castle and there are five wilderness areas within hours of the community. Because it's so far from the bright lights of any major city, Tonopah's night skies are considered among the best in the country for stargazing.
In the old days, miners were famous for “high-grading” – only working the richest looking ores, as the methods of extracting metals back them were primitive and transportation costs (and time) made it hard to turn a profit on anything but high grade ores. But today, a one-man operation and a pick-up truck or a trailer can pull a 1,500 lb. load and transport it the same day for a half ounce to an ounce of gold – a good profit for a day’s work by anyone’s standards!
BUYER WILL RECEIVE THE FOLLOWING WITH THEIR COMPLETED TRANSACTION:
* Quitclaim deed showing full ownership of the claim. This will be stamped, recorded and verified with the County and the BLM offices.
* Welcome packet with all of the rules and regulations as they relate to the State and BLM where the claim is located.
* Educational documents to annually renew your mining claim with the BLM.
* A CD of all of the documented images of the claim including maps of the site.
* Map of claim marked and GPS coordinates.
* Multiple maps showing claim location and surrounding areas for access.

ABOUT THE MINING DISTRICT
TONOPAH MINING DISTRICT- NEVADA
The Tonopah Mining District began circa 1900 with the discovery of gold and silver-rich ore by prospector Jim Butler when he went looking for a lost burro he owned. The burro had wandered off during the night and sought shelter near a rock outcropping. When Butler discovered the animal the next morning, he picked up a rock to throw at the beast, but instead noticed the rock was unusually heavy. He had stumbled upon the second-richest silver strike in Nevada history.
While Butler may have been responsible for the first ore strike, it took men of wealth and power to consolidate the mines and reinvest their profits into the infrastructure of the town of Tonopah. George Wingfield, a 24-year old poker player when he arrived in Tonopah, played poker and dealt faro in the town saloons. Once he had a small bankroll he talked Jack Carey, owner of the Tonopah Club, into taking him in as a partner and to file for a gaming license.
In 1903, miners rioted against Chinese workers in Tonopah, which spurred a boycott in China of U.S. goods. By 1904, after investing his winnings in the Boston-Tonopah Mining Company, Wingfield was worth $2 million. When old friend George S. Nixon, a banker, arrived in town, Wingfield invested in his Nye County Bank. They grub staked miners with friend Nick Abelman, bought existing mines, and by the time the partners moved to Goldfield, Nevada and made their Goldfield Consolidated Mining Company a public corporation in 1906, Nixon and Wingfield were worth over $30 million.
Small mining ventures continue to this day to provide income for local miners. By taking advantage of its location about halfway between Reno and Las Vegas as a stopover and rest spot on a lonely highway, the town has done fairly well. The Tonopah Station has slots and the Banc Club also offers some gaming. Numerous restaurants, shops, gas stations and motels means it is a perfect place for staging while you work this mine.
The nearby Tonopah Test Range is the town’s main source of employment. The military has used the range and surrounding areas over the last half dozen decades as a nuclear test site, a bombing range, and as a base of operations for the development of the F-117 Nighthawk.
Tonopah has an arid, cold desert climate with cool winters and hot summers. Due to Tonopah's aridity and high altitude, daily temperature ranges are quite large. Nights are cool, even in summer.
There are an average of 50.3 days with highs of 90 °F or higher and 157.8 days with lows of 32 °F or lower. The record high temperature in Tonopah was 104 °F (40 °C) on July 18, 1960.
The record low temperature was -15 °F on January 24, 1937 and January 23, 1962.
There are an average of 37 days with measurable precipitation. The wettest year was 1946 with 10.27 inches and the driest year was 1927 with 1.92 inches.
The most precipitation in one month was 2.87 inches in November 1946. The most precipitation in 24 hours was 1.62 inches on August 17, 1977. Average annual snowfall is 13.0 inches.
The most snowfall in one year was 79.3 inches in 1946, including 37.0 inches in November 1946.
This entire area is relatively easily accessible by dirt roads which are well marked and well maintained. A 2-wheel drive car can get to this claim off of route Route 95, but I would recommend a good 4-wheel drive or even quads to be able to access the entire claim that is not on the road.
Located about halfway between Reno and Las Vegas, Tonopah is a perfect place to stay while enjoying central Nevada's recreational activities including rock hunting, hiking, bird watching, wildlife viewing, mountain biking, off roading and hunting.
The area is full of dirt roads, so a good map and a good GPS unit is a must, but we'll show you exactly where both claims are on the map as well as provide you with the precise latitude and longitude of each corner marker, so finding them will not be a problem for you.
I ADVISE CAUTION WHENEVER DRIVING OR HIKING ON THIS CLAIM – THE ENTIRE VALLEY IS DOTTED WITH ABANDONED MINES – SOME OF THEM ARE EASY TO SEE FROM A DISTANCE, AND SOME OF THEM ARE IMPOSSIBLE TO SEE UNTIL YOU ARE RIGHT ON TOP OF THEM. I WOULD ESTIMATE THAT ONLY 20% OF THEM ARE ROPED OR FENCED OFF – THE REST ARE WIDE OPEN AND YOU SHOULD BE EXTREMELY CAREFUL IF ENTERING THEM.
A COUPLE OF SPARE TIRES OR AN AIR COMPRESSOR AND PATCH KIT OR AT LEAST A COUPLE OF CANS OF TIRE SEALANT IS STRONGLY RECOMMENDED FOR OBVIOUS REASONS! ALSO, BE SURE TO BRING IN WHATEVER WATER YOU MAY NEED, AS THERE ARE ALMOST NO WATER SOURCES IN THE AREA 10 MONTHS OUT OF THE YEAR
Note that all of the pictures of this claim were taken the team on a recent visit to this property.
This auction is for full/all interest in this 20.66 acre lode mining claim. This claim covers the entire site, 1,500 ft. by 600 ft., and includes full rights to all minerals, gems and just about whatever else you may find on the property. The winner of this auction will receive a notarized quitclaim deed to the full claim and all associated documentation showing full ownership of the claim.
Maintenance on all BLM mining claims is $155.00, per 20 acre parcel, annually. This must be paid on or before September 1st, every year unless you do more than $100 per year in improvements to the property, in which case you can file for and receive a waiver of the maintenance fee.
NOTE: If you own fewer than 10 claims nationwide, we can assist you in filing the paperwork to waive the maintenance fee every year. That means you can only plan on paying $10 per year for your maintenance fee instead of $155.
And let me just re-state once more the answer to the one question that I get asked the most often; you are bidding for full claim ownership, not just a down payment or a part of this 20.66 acre claim. Auction end price is the final price for the entire site – there are no phony transfer fees or handling costs of any kind!
TRANSFERS OF OWNERSHIP IN MINING CLAIMS;
Interest in a properly recorded mining claim or site may be transferred in part or its entirety. So you can will, gift, sell or lease your interest in this claim at any time in the future. A quitclaim deed or recordable conveyance document is required and if you do sell the claim, the transfer documents should be filed within 60 days after the transfer.
With regard to transferring this claim initially into your name, we take care of all the paperwork at our expense. You do not have to worry about anything – we handle the BLM transfer documentation and the recording. Then if you ever want to will or sell your claim in the future, we will gladly assist you on the paperwork for no charge.
CAN YOU CAMP / BUILD ON YOUR MINING CLAIM?
Without an approved plan of operations, you have the same rights and restrictions as the public. If the area is open to camping to the public, then it is permissible. However, you need to check with the BLM Field Office or the local District Ranger for areas open to camping. Under Federal law in order to occupy the public lands under the mining laws for more than 14 calendar days in any 90 day period, a claimant must be involved in certain activities that (a) are reasonably incident; (b) constitute substantially regular work; (c) are reasonably calculated to lead to the extraction and beneficiation of minerals; (d) involve observable on-the-ground activity that can be verified; and (e) use appropriate equipment that is presently operable, subject to the need for reasonable assembly, maintenance, repair or fabrication of replacement parts. All five of these requirements must be met for occupancy to be permissible.

As the largest company in the mining industry selling legitimate and valuable historic claims, you can rest assured that you are not only covered with our 100% lifetime money-back guarantee, but you can also rest easy that there is no fine print on any of our claim auctions telling you will have to deal with any games like being charged phony fees or having to pay inflated “processing” or “transfer” fees. The final auction price for this mine when the auction ends is ALL you will pay.
Our in-house legal counsel will complete all of the paperwork and documentation for recording and transferring FULL ownership of this mine into your name if you win the auction, AND we will ship you everything in one to two business days of receipt of your payment in full (usually just one day!). So you can plan to visit (and start working) your claim the next day without the lengthy delay you will experience with other companies selling claims –and you will not have to pay any extra costs, fees or other poor excuses for extra profit that normally just go into a seller’s pocket.
