For sale is a New Old Stock (NOS) Lawrence Brothers (LB) No. 1357 "loose pin" 1 1/2" cabinet hinge for use with flush mount doors. This hinge looks new, but was manufactured circa the mid-1930s to mid-1940s. The finish is likely the LB Bright Chromium, or possibly bright nickel.
This hinge was part of an estate purchase of a large lot of hinges, including many packed in their original boxes (see last photo). The Lawrence Brothers box labeling indicates the hinges were made in the 1930s, or the latest, early 1940s, as Lawrence Brothers switched to a different product labeling system sometime in the 1940s. Lawrence Brothers was based in Sterling, Illinois, at that time, and was a maker of quality hardware. Also, the estate included a large number of Stanley hinges that were manufactured prior to 1935, which aided in dating the entire lot.
This hinge was found loose in a Lawrence Brothers box without the lid along with other loose hinges. However, it appears none the worse for wear (see photos for details). On the back (non-visible) side of the door wing is what in the photograph appears to be pitting or rough spots. Close examination shows no evidence of corrosion, just rough texture. As this would be the side screwed against the door, it would not be visible when the hinge is mounted. There were no screws with this hinge. Unfortunately, this was the only hinge of this type in the estate lot. A perfect petite size for a small box or cabinet drawer.
ONLY THE LAWRENCE BROTHERS 1357 HINGE LISTED IN THE DESCRIPTION IS INCLUDED WITH THIS LOT--IT DOES NOT INCLUDE ANY OTHER BOXES, CONTENTS, OR MEASURING DEVICE.
