Here's an original 8" x 10" publicity photo of saxophonist Jay Cameron, a reliably exciting member of bands large (Woody Herman, Maynard Ferguson) and small (Slide Hampton). He has signed and inscribed it in fountain pen as follows: "Andre -- my good copain, allons blower quelquepart -- Jay" (i.e., "buddy, let's blow somewhere"). The photo is undated, but the youthful image is likely from his long soujourn in France during the early 1950s.
Hear him at length, on baritone, on the Slide Hampton Octet record of "Confirmation":
This photo is in very good condition overall. There is one small, noticeable crease in the upper left-hand corner. There are a few other creases that are visible only when the photo is unframed and held at certain angles -- my first photo exaggerates the appearance of one such crease, to the left of Cameron's head. The back is unmarked. The photo displays very well.
Years ago there were rumors that he had recorded an album for Atlantic to be entitled "Cameron City."
