Paris, France...Rome, Italy...Madrid, Spain...Berlin, Germany...New York City, USA...these are just a few of the countries in the world where a handy pocket/carry on travel alarm clock could be quite handy! Up for your consideration is a highly collectible Mid-Century Modern (1950-1969) Phinney & Walker travel alarm clock inside of a burgundy faux cow grain spring loaded hinge assembly compartment lined in tan satin ideal for a pocket, carry on suitcase for business or pleasure travel. The case has a spring loaded hinge to open and shut the compartment that houses the timepiece. When opened up the timepiece swings on a tiny hinge that fits into a notch built- into the brass framing around the compartment that holds the timepiece in place to use it as an alarm clock.
The clock is framed in solid yellow brass framing, the lens or crystal is beveled plastic that fits into the brass framing, The minute & hour marks are done in solid black paint, numerals on the faceplate are done in 'glow in the dark' iridescent paint that when exposed to light glows in the dark until you fall asleep. The alarm hand is a shiny gold color. Also on the faceplate is the name 'PHINNEY-WALKER" near the top on the faceplate and below this near the bottom of the faceplate is the word 'ALARM" signifying that this tiny clock is an alarm clock. On the back of the clock is one winding key to wind both the clock and the alarm function. There are two thumb screws to set the hour & minute hands and there is also a thumb screw to set the alarm on the clock, and there is a knob that can be pulled outward to allow the alarm to sound after it is set and you may push this knob in to stop the alarm after you awaken. The entire back assembly of the clock is also done in a shiny yellow brass and written on the back is 'MADE IN GERMANY" the country this clock was crafted in. There is some wear on the back of the clock from age and use nothing major as this clock is nearly 60 years old making it a vintage clock of note.
Today, travel alarm clocks are not in wide use as most people have mobile devices with alarms built-into them. However, if your old-fashioned this clock will still wake you up where ever you are. Besides being an attractive and functional alarm clock these clocks have become somewhat of 'catnip' for the collector of them, and I have sold numerous versions of this timepiece in my17 years of listing on EBAY some of them were made in Japan and some of them were made in Germany. This particular clock was made in Germany making it a rarer version than the mass produced Japanese versions that look exactly like mine does though Japanese ones use cheaper materials in the making of theirs.
The clock, when closed measures a mere 3" X 3" X 3" square, and the timepiece inside the case measures 2 1/2" X 2 1/2" X 2 1/2" square, and this timepiece is in superb condition, keeps perfect time, with only some wear on the back of it.
