What an opportunity to get a 20-acre mining claim in a little known gold-rich mining district that most people don't know about. The "SOLDIER OF FORTUNE OF GOLD" is just that, be it for the beginner, family, or serious prospector/miner and just 5 miles from Yosemite.
JUST BELOW THE CONFLUENCE (THE LOCATION WHERE 2 WATERWAYS MERGE) OF SOLDIER CREEK AND SOUTH FORK TUOLUMNE RIVER
CRACK FULL OF MATERIAL!
Fantastic gold catches up and down the claim, providing the perfect opportunity to pan, sluice, high bank, crevice, snipe, moss, and metal detect. The picture of gold in the pan above is what I got from doing some test pans on the claim.
THE HARDIN FLAT MINING DISTRICT IS KNOWN FOR NARROW QUARTZ VEINS THAT IN PLACES HAVE YIELDED SMALL BUT RICH POCKETS OF GOLD NEAR THE SURFACE...THE "SOLDIER OF FORTUNE GOLD" MINING CLAIM IS LITTERED WITH THESE NARROW QUARTZ VEINS, THESE ARE JUST TWO OF THE MANY VEINS.
You have reasonable access to most of the claim, though most will require a little hike to get to the river. Once on the river, walking the length of the claim was not an issue, but during certain times in the winter it may be.
WHAT GOLD NUGGETS COULD BE TRAPPED UNDER THAT MASSIVE BOULDER? (SIERRA BLASTER TIME!), AS SHOWN ON THE GOLD RUSH WHITE WATER REALITY TELEVISION SERIES THAT AIRS ON THE DISCOVERY CHANNEL.
So, whether you're a part-time prospector, full time gold miner, or dedicated metal detectorist, there has never been a better time to get involved in the modern-day Gold Rush! Not only is gold mining a hobby and or a full-time job that can pay you back, it's an activity the entire family can enjoy together in the great outdoors.
Perhaps one of the best benefits of gold prospecting, gold mining, and or metal detecting is that with the price of gold today, you don't have to find much to completely pay for your claim and equipment-- and the rest is pure profit!
WITH GOLD PRICES STARTING TO MOVE STEADILY UPWARD, THERE IS NO BETTER TIME TO OWN A GOLD CLAIM!
Mining claims are mineral rights to Government land and the rights to extract precious metals. They are considered real property and can be bought, sold, leased, willed, transferred and etc., with that being said they have TREMENDOUS RESALE VALUE.
HARDIN FLAT MINING DISTRICT, EAST BELT, TUOLUMNE COUNTY, CALIFORNIA
LOCATION, HISTORY, GEOLOGY, ORE DEPOSITS, MINES
This is a small Sierra Nevada east gold belt district in south-central Tuolumne County. It is west of Yosemite National Park on the Big Oak Flat road and two miles east of the town of Hardin Flat. The town was named for "Little Johnny Hardin", an eccentric Englishman who once owned a sawmill here. There are a number of small prospects that are intermittently worked, mostly by weekend prospectors
The principal rock in the area is granodiorite that is cut by narrow aplitic dikes. There are a number of narrow quartz veins that in places have yielded small but rich pockets of gold near the surface. Some sulfides are present.

CAMPING AREAS
The spot that I would set up camp is just above the claim to the north off of Hwy 120. It is the old Hardin Flat road that has not been in use for many a year. The road is so old that you can only find it on old maps. Due to the fire that went through the region many years back, the area has been cleared with a mulching machine...making it a perfect spot to set up camp and make your way down the hill approx 1200 feet until you reach the top of your claim. I would put this as a moderate hike to the claim. The photos below show the area off of Hwy 120.
THERE IS OTHER WAYS TO THE CLAIM OFF OF HARDIN FLAT ROAD WITH DIRT ROADS AND PLENTY OF CAMPING/LODGING AREAS NEAR-BY.

A treasure of natural wonders and lively gold rush history, Tuolumne County offers visitors vivid scenery. A portion of Yosemite National Park lies within the county, along with giant redwood groves and impressive geological features.
