Vintage Gene Waggoner Oil Painting, 1977. "Houses of Yesteryear."
"Gene Waggoner was an American artist based out of Washington. For the most part it looks like he was most active in the 1970s and 1980s. While he did have some recognition across the US, his biggest area of fame was in the NorthWest. He was involved in a number of galleries and exhibitions in both Oregon and Washington. I even found where an art publishing company out of Portland printed quite a few of his books. He even published a few painting instruction booklets where you could learn to paint using his own pieces.
I did find a few seascapes and portrait style pieces, but his largest subject matter was Victorian style homes and almost abandoned style barns and buildings set against highly detailed landscapes and seascapes. His work for the most part is considered realistic, but I find that with a lot of his work, especially his houses, his technique almost takes on a sort of illustrative quality to it. He also is very attentive to his backgrounds. If you look closely they are some very interesting and subtle transitions in his skies. Every part of the paintings work to set a mood."
